Childbearing also took the fun out of trampolines. Sigh.

Rowing machine. Before you blindly disregard my suggestion, please read exactly how little I'm basing this on. :)

I started working out with a personal trainer over the summer. This makes me sound fancy and fitness-y and let me assure you...I am neither. I go twice a week, and workout privately with a very nice former college athlete who designs my workouts, brings me dumbbells and counts my reps.

Said trainer also introduces me to things I've never tried. Last week's new thing was the rowing machine. In my mind, I looked like Claire Hale from House of Cards, on that thing. I tried it for 5 minutes, and thought it was fabulous. Treadmills are dread mills, and the elliptical is...just, no. But this was a machine that didn't make me bored or seasick (odd, right, for a rowing machine) or angry.

If you can, though, try a trainer. Seriously. It was the best investment I made in myself this year.

Trainers can absolutely be valuable, you just need the "right" one. Someone our age. ;0

Also, I cannot see you on an erg; no wait, now I can and...no.

I have a YouTube lady I like because she is our age. And she swears. :) https://www.youtube.com/@FitnesswithPJ BIG fan of hers. I got 2 of my friends hooked. She can do intense stuff, but also yoga and just stretching. Try her.

The pandemic led me to the basement and YouTube fitness and for the past 3 years I have been doing various routines from The Body Project and also growwithjo. Both are low impact, yet a nice workout all the same (Body Project often has options shown for higher impact). Both are chill and non-judgmental. Body Project comes with cool Australian accents, while growwithjo often has her adorable dog in the background. I do all the free stuff for both...you can pay for more via both of them, but the free stuff is enough for me. I also just returned to the park district for water aerobics class, which is the one thing I can't do at home since the bathtub isn't big enough. (Note: I do not work for or am in any way affiliated with either of those!)

How do you manage to get songs stuck in my head??

I agree with Sarah - the rowing machine. The trick with that is form. You don’t have to go fast but you do need good form. Women our age supposedly shouldn’t be doing intense cardio. We should focus on weight training or resistance training they say. I’ve only been rowing for a few months now but it is pretty awesome once you get the flow. Plus, I can binge watch tv at the same time. 🚣📺
