A brief update.
Loyal readers: As you can see, I’ve moved this newsletter to Substack. I’m keeping all posts free for now, but you do have the option to chip in if you want to support me and my writing. Plus paid subscribers will be able to comment on the site, and I hope you do! Comments are fun!
I’ve changed the name of the newsletter from the unfocused, not-great “Here is a newsletter for you” to the much more focused, now-I-mean-business “Just keep writing”—inspired by my pal Deanna, who embroidered this for me a while ago.
This bad boy (seen here with good girl) keeps me company on my desk and has become my mantra when I feel myself falling down into another anxiety spiral. It seems to be my way these days. But isn’t it everyone’s? I don’t know anyone who’s doing great, and if they are, I find them highly suspect. The world is on fire. It’s time to freak the fuck out. And take action, sure — donate and march and write letters, yes yes and yes — but I think we’re allowed to have a lil’ tiny freakout first. And then a nap. Naps are non-negotiable.
As the new name suggests, I want to make this newsletter more about writing as well as mental health — because I think mental health starts with truth telling, and I don’t know any way better to do that than with writing. (I’ve tried it through interpretive dance, and I just pulled my groin muscles.) All this will be done through the lens of my personal experience, so there will be more stories about my one-toothed dog, my murder-loving cat, and so on. Do not worry. (You weren’t worried.)
And while I’m here with news and developments, I might as well spill the beans: I’m launching a business as a book coach. I’m in the process of getting certified through Author Accelerator in nonfiction book coaching; I already have my first client, and I am enjoying working with her immensely. Soon I hope my website will have all the information on the above, as well as photos of me wearing eyeliner and laughing at something far off in the distance, and I will let you know when that day comes.
